3/17/2017 – They also have this cute back area of the restaurant that, I will be honest, is colder in the winter if you don’t sit under the heaters, but in the summer… it’s relaxing and nice.
Oh, and just a note.. on the weekends, ALWAYS call in a reservation during the day so you can have a seat. If you walk in on the weekend, expect to be standing really close to a bunch of people you don’t know since the waiting area is small.
2/25/2017 – Great for a date night. Love their calamari with the tempura sweet potato and asparagus. Their mai tais are delicious as well
2/4/2017 – Amazing sushi, amazing drinks, wicked friendly service. Cannot recommend this place enough!! Fantastic cozy atmosphere. Good for date night or a night out with friends, even a sushi-indulgence for yourself!!
1/28/2017 – I’ve definitely found my new favorite sushi restaurant! The sushi was very tasty and the fish they used was very fresh. The staff was very nice and the food came out real quickly after we ordered it. The only thing that I would change about my experience is the horrific wait time. I would suggest that if you want to go on a Friday or Saturday night that you make a reservation.
1/23/2017 – I thoroughly enjoyed both of my experiences at Baba. While it is a bit of a drive for me (30 min), it was absolutely worth the trip as it is superior to any sushi restaurants in my area.
My first experience, I started with the Saki Sangria and the Seared Mango Tuna, both of which were excellent. I started with Miso Soup the following trip. It was average and tasted as you would anticipate it to.
Their wine list is decent. They don’t have an abundance of selections, but their selections are of decent quality.
Their sushi rolls are flavorful and presented well – I tried the Celtic Maki, Green Fire Maki and the Holiday Roll. The holiday was certainly my favorite, but the others were excellent as well.
While I don’t typically eat dessert with sushi, I opted to go for the chocolate cake. It did not disappoint. Being so impressed with the cake, I decided to explore other desserts the following trip. The banana flambe was also great. Super sweet, but tasty.
OH, most importantly, the servers are tremendous. Both were very polite and organized. They came to check on the table at perfect times. It’s clear Baba hires nice people and trains well!
1/11/2017 Updated review – Still my number one place to get sushi! Every time I go I order the same exact things. They never get boring because they are seriously so delicious! I get the hotate hokkai yaki (I believe that’s how it’s spelled) and then the butterfly roll (there’s peanut sauce on it and it’s the BEST). My boyfriend and I end with the banana flambé and god is it good. We went here for NYE and I tried the wasabi Bloody Mary and definitely recommend it to people who enjoy blood Mary’s. It’s my new favorite beverage there. This place remains a 10/10.
7/15/2016 – I’m eating takeout from baba as I write this. I got spicy salmon, tuna avocado, and seaweed salad. Everything is so good! I can’t decide what bite I want to have next. The ratio of rice to fish is perfect. Only a small amount of rice! Just like Japan.
I have also been here on a date with my boyfriend for eat in and the ambiance and service is excellent.
You like sushi? You like baba.
6/22/2016 – Previous review This used to be my second favorite sushi place but it’s bumped its way up to the top. Number one place to go for sushi. I get the butterfly roll and hotate hokai yokai (sp?) every time and they continue to nail it. The establishment is nice and clean and the staff are very polite. Recommend 100%.
11/18/2015 – It’s kind of rare that I give a 5-star rating and don’t get me wrong, there were a couple of things I noticed last night that I wasn’t a fan of at Baba, however; based on my overall experience, it was definitely 5-star.
I’d never even heard of this place until a friend and I went for dinner on a Tuesday evening. We arrived around 6:45’ish to a 70% full house but were seated within a minute of walking in the door. I noticed outside they were proudly displaying a banner announcing they’re one of the top 100 restaurants in the country. Our hostess took us through the oddly shaped layout to the back room which is past the bar area with some small tables (one of which is HORRIBLY placed and totally in the way, it’s a big drawback) over a little walkway, down some steps and into a decent sized room. I didn’t count the tables down there but if I had to take a stab at it, I’d say 10-12 of a good mix of small/large tables. Baba is a great restaurant for a date night because of the sleek, dark and comfortable atmosphere.
A moment after we were seated a waitress came over to take our drink order, which came out quickly and then we placed our food order. I ordered a house salad, which came out quickly and was fresh and pre-mixed with the house ginger dressing which is perfect. I also ordered the lobster tail roll with cream cheese, avocado and shrimp, which also came out quickly and it was very delicious. I couldn’t tell you exactly what my friend ordered but one had banana in it, either way; he was pleased.
Baba does offer more than just sushi for those picky eaters or someone not in the mood for it and it’s your basic noodles and soups. I do have to say that the menu is a bit pricey but it’s well worth it because the food is top-notch with super fresh ingredients and the service is fast and friendly.
Can’t wait to go back and try more!
11/18/2015 – Without a doubt the best sushi I have ever had! I refuse to go elsewhere now. The Godzilla roll was to die for along with the butterfly roll. Overall very delicious.
Our waitress was just adorable and so sweet! She constantly came over to check on us and made us feel very welcome!! 3 sushi rolls out in less than 5 minutes, very fresh and the staff is so nice! 10/10 I can not rave enough about this place!!

February 27, 2017 – The food was AMAZING!! Very fast service and customer service was fabulous! Very attentive and friendly! The Wasabi Bloody Mary was delicious!
February 12, 2017 – Had a birthday dinner in the private Karaoke room with Abby as our server…everything was awesome! The food, the service, the room…all of it. My guests and I were very pleased and will return! Recommend highly
February 6, 2017 – I have been going to Baba sushi for three years and the sushi there is great. They are rated in the top 10 Asian restaurants in the USA for food quality and service. The fish is very fresh. The owner, Jes is very professional and always helpful. The staff there is great. I have always been very satisfied. I have not seen any change in the serving size of sushi.
February 3, 2017 – By far the best sushi I’ve ever had. It’s always absolutely fresh, the service is always top of the line and it’s never a long wait. Their prices aren’t bad either but you definitely get what you pay for. (:
December 15, 2016 – Best Sushi around. This is a whole different level of amazing. Ask for something off menu, and don’t miss the oyster shooters.
December 3, 2016 – The service always fantastic! The food amazing and accommodations great! Love it there my Friday lunch every week preference!!!
October 16, 2016 – We loved this place. First time for us. Great food, drinks, and service. We thought it would be very expensive but it was very reasonable. We would go back again. Recommend the banana desert.
August 31, 2016 – Love this place so much! The food was incredible and the staff was the most kind and courteous we have ever encountered. Not to mention, I got engaged here last night!! The most romantic and beautiful setting set the score for a perfect engagement. My fiance and I thank our waitress and the cook for a wonderful and very memorable night. ♡
July 26, 2016 – Every Time I visit Baba, I am amazed. The quality of the sushi is easily one of the best (if not the best) of any sushi restaurant I’ve tried in the US. From coast to coast and many places in between. You’re missing out on quite a treat it you’ve overlooked it 🙂
January 23, 2016 – I heard a lot of great things about this restaurant and finally tried it last night. I just found my new favorite sushi place! Hands down, the best sushi I’ve had in central Mass and perhaps even beyond.
November 28, 2015 – Just recently started eating sushi. No one ever taught me how to properly use chopsticks so I’ve always use a fork, as silly as it sounds. Tonight was my first time there and the hostess taught me how to use them!! The food was really good and the waitress we had help us a lot. Can’t wait to go back!

March 2017 – Awesome atmosphere and food. Sea urchin with the quail eggs was wonderful, not easy to find it fresh and not fishy tasting. A+ would sushi again.
March 2017 – Really great sushi. I was expecting the prices to be much higher but it wasn’t that bad.
February 2017 – Baba Sushi is such a gem, staff is friendly and the food is simply put – amazing. We have frequented this establishment no less than 35 times and EVERY time the food has been terrific. Not one thing to complain about.
February 2017 – Always the best sushi and Japanese food in Worcester. Make sure to make reservations if going on Friday or Saturday.
January 2017 – Great sushi restaurant in Worcester. The wife and I split about 5 different maki rolls, all were delicious. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for.
December 2016 – We eat sushi pretty often. This is the best sushi we have tasted to date! It is so fresh and well-made. I would recommend the Angel and King rolls. The latter roll is really good if you like crunch. This place is quite expensive. We ordered 5 rolls and it was $100 bucks, so be ready to shell out some cash if you go here. However, you won’t be disappointed in the selection and taste.
November 2016 – The best sushi I’ve had in the Worcester area. Always very fresh and unique variety. They offer a larger selection than most places. Service was always fast and friendly.
October 2016 – Excellent quality and service. Lots of variety, too. Very pricey, but definitely worth it for special occasions. Be aware that the place is small, so if you have a huge party it may be not the best choice.
September 2016 – I’ve eaten sushi just about everywhere in Mass, and hands down Baba was my favorite- it’s doesn’t look like much on the outside-its very small, but inside is beautiful and the sushi was insanely googoodyou should definitely try the king “Elvis” sushi and get their raspberry champagne, yummmmm
August 2016 – This is one of the best sushi restaurants I’ve ever been to (and I’ve been to many). I judge sushi restaurants by the quality (freshness, tenderness, texture, etc) of their tuna and salmon sashimi. Baba has top notch tuna.
April 2016 – My husband is a big fan of sushi. A friend recommended us to try out this place and we had a very lovely and enjoyable dining experience! Upon entry, the host and wait staff were very friendly, professional and seated us immediately. The overall look and feel was very clean and made for a very comfy atmosphere and ambiance. In addition to fresh fish, delicious sushi and other culinary delights, we had a great dinner experience. I highly recommend this place!

February 2017 – I had heard very good things about Baba Sushi and we gave it a whirl twice.
On a busy Saturday night we were on time with a reservation, and seated immediately. Always nice when a restaurant can not only take a reservation, but can KEEP a reservation as well. No waiting. This is a simple expectation and one lost on many these days.
Sat a the sushi bar. Always prefer that spot and managed to watch the chef’s work their magic. Baba does not disappoint in skill of the chefs, creativity, flavor, freshness, variety or simple rather than over done presentation elegance. Clearly all about the food. If you love sushi, you will see the difference in talent level immediately. This is key. From our perspective, it really does blow away our other favorites. We started with one oyster shooter each which were tangy, had a raw tiny egg and was a flavor blast!. A great start. Next we moved on to shumai and sushi spring rolls which were really outstanding. Then on to sushi, with a selection of rolls, nigiri and sashimi. Excellent.
On day two, a weeknight late (Open till 11 a plus), there were only about 9 people dining with some at the bar. We began with oyster shooters again, but this time eel and avocado, spicy tuna rolls, softshell crab roll and yellow tail with scallion were the selections. Have to give mention to the super fresh and delicious ginger and also a great wasabi/horseradish accompaniments. Far better than the stuff you get elsewhere. The service is perfect here, not hovering and very accommodating.
On a side note, it would be nice to have a non-alcoholic beer choice here. So often sushi bars don’t seem to get the no alcohol concept, that you can charge the same as a premium beer for a great German N/A beer like: Erdinger, Clausthaller, St. Pauli Girl, Becks etc. (Avoid the swill versions from the big beer US makers that are awful). These are super low cal, super tasty and getting hotter and hotter these days to have on the bar menu.
Yes it is a tight space, yes it is busy on weekends with a wait, but those are not nuisances – Make a reservation. If the food and service are great (and they are), then tight seating becomes part of the Baba experience and sometimes rubbing elbows results in new friends. Baba Sushi is currently that by which others should be measured. Go.
November 6, 2016 – Totally worth the drive from Eastern Mass. The presentation is beautiful and original, the service enthusiastic, and the sushi itself is of excellent quality. I loved the oyster shooters! Plus the interior has a cool, club-like feel. Looking forward to visiting again when I’m back on the East Coast!
November 4, 2016 – We visited the restaurant after a recommendation from one of our collie’s at an event we had close to the place and it was the best decision we made to finish our busy day.
We arrived and a lovely staff welcomed us at the door. We took 3 places at the bar and was given menus right away. It didn’t take long for our dishes to arrive and it tasted fresh and amazing. We have travelled a lot at had ate in many places and they have definitely have the best sushi in town, we had a salad and a delicious soup also.
We would definatly visit again while in the area.
October 26, 2016 – My son was visiting from New York and wanted sushi. So..of course…Baba Sushi…
He was in love with the food..and he is picky…as he comes from New York..where food is king!
October 26, 2016 – Went for lunch, just 2 of us. Sat in the front area, very attentive waiter. The sushi was terrific. Tried 4 different options, all were delightful. Enjoyed the miso soup too!
October 17, 2016 – Baba always has the best sushi!. Fresh and unique offerings. It’s our “go to” sushi place!
Good service, clean, and a nice ambience help make this an enjoyable experience, too.
September 28, 2016 – Went with my daughter, a collegue student, and had a wonderful experience, good bar, and excellent food.
September 12, 2016 – The sushi is phenomenal and the staff is great. We go for the lunch hour and get seated quickly. We also go here for date nights, and sometimes there is a wait. My husband held my surprise birthday party here with a lot of friends and the chef did an amazing job!
August 15, 2016 – Amazing sushi, excellent drinks, good music and fast service. What more can you ask for? Their appetizers don’t disappoint either! It does get really busy Friday/Saturday evenings so reservations are a must.
August 9, 2016 – My daughter and I went for quick sushi dinner…the menu had so much to choose from–great sharing place. We started with Miso soup then split several sushi rolls and seared tuna dish. Everything was fresh and so good.
Tried several times to get here and was definitely worth the persistence! Server was attentive- atmosphere was intimate…decor was nice–there is a bar…will go again.
August 2, 2016 – How many times have I driven by this place and really not paid any attention to it just because it is just so ordinary….BIG MISTAKE!!! Ordinary is not in this vocabulary when you walk into this very demure looking place from the street.
The decor is just so inviting and fresh. The FOOD….OUTSTANDING. I tried so much that I would need a book to talk about it but anything that they make is great, fresh and innovative.
May 26, 2016 – The front of the unassuming building which houses this restaurant is covered with “BEST OF …” signs, and I know why. The sushi was fresh, beautiful and delicious! Our group were given menus to mark (with a grease-pen), making ordering easy and accurate. The menu was extensive, and allowed for all dietary restrictions. We celebrated with warm Sake, and a platter of colorful, creative, well-seasoned sushi. A “gem” in Worcester!
January 8, 2016 – I have visited this restaurant many times over the last 5 or more years and every time has been excellent. The restaurant is always packed so we are sure to make reservations. The service and quality of food are truly 5* in the city of Worcester if not all of central MA. I have heard there are a few other sushi spots to enjoy in Worcester but I am not sure I will ever have they opportunity to try them!
